I would be lying if I said that I have always had an interest in tracing my family history. There was a time that I was not interested, and I remember precisely the moment I did get interested in tracing my family genealogy. I can’t tell you WHEN, but I know the MOMENT. How weird is [...] One of my students shared a “new” website with me yesterday. The Michigan e-Library website is a website that provides awesome resources for free to anyone who has a Michigan driver’s license or identification card. The mission statement as on their website states: “Administered by the Library of Michigan in partnership with Michigan’s libraries of all types, [...] I just received a partial copy of the Pension file for Wilbur Stiles born in 1864 in Michigan and died in 1938 in Missouri. This Wilbur is the brother to my gr-gr-grandmother, Emma Mae Stiles. It contains some interesting information…. The National Archives will send 100 pages, but if the file is more than that, they will [...] The Pennsic War is starting up again this year. This is an annual gathering of around 10,000 or so members of the Society for Creative Anachronism – or as I affectionately refer to it “my Medieval History group”. I haven’t attended Pennsic in several years – or actually any function of the SCA come to think of [...] I recently watched a facinating episode of Nova – one on the “Clovis” people – or more precisely their origins. The Clovis people are named after the Clovis stone – aka arrowhead (that’s how I know the term). Archaeologists have discovered tools that could link the first “Americans” who were here over 20,000 years ago to [...] Former President, Gerald Ford passed away earlier this week. Today is a private funeral for the family, then there will be “public” funerals later on. What I find incredible is that at 3:30 eastern today, news stations interrupted regular programming to show the “private” funeral – at least the arrival of the family, etc. Why can’t the [...] When I was growing up, I used to watch the cartoon “Dungeons Dragons”. I had never heard of the game, but I remember really liking the cartoon. After it went off the air in 1985, I actually forgot about that cartoon. In the 1990′s I was introduced to the game by some friends. [...] For the better part of the last 5 years, my job has taken me to Cincinnati, Ohio. Since I have spent so much time there, I have started watching the local news casts when I can. I have viewed each of the news broadcasts in Cinci and have settled on my favorite station – [...] Yesterday was election day and boy am I glad it’s over with. I was getting so sick of all the advertisments and automated phone calls. Of course, I voted – even though I am currently on the road for work, I cast my absentee ballot about 3 weeks ago.
